Andros Letter to Blathwayt dated October 30, 1695

This is by Capt Basler in the Vanherek,
with the Experiment & two Fier ships of the
Jamaica Squadron put in here on their return
home and taking in wood & water were [att]
the taking the forts & destroying the French
setlemtt on the windward port of Hispaniola
thence to Jamaica, where left all well,
for the soldiers, much diminished by sicknes,
and have since lost their Comandore Wilm[illegible]
Dyed att Sea, neare Florida. all continues
well here, & nothing new since the fleet
sailed in June, but some small alarmes
by strange Indians on the fronteers. and
by Advice of the Councill, the Genll Asembly
by Proclamation Prorogued from the 31st
Instant to the 23th of Aprill, by wch time
hope His Majties further Comands P'ticulary
relating to ye quota of men for assistance
Mr Blathwayt p2 To New York, [diferenced] as by my former
from other Colonys, [& losse] to his Majtys
Revenue, by such to be sent on demand, as
comanded & now to be by ye 1st of May.

The 23th instant wee had newes, by way
of New England, of the taking of n[illegible], &
C[assa]ll, and good senses of His Majtys forces,
by land, and sea upon wch [ye] C[illegible] ye J[ams]
in the [Batery] att James town (where the
Genll court then sitting) to be fined, when
his Majties Health & continued good s[ens]es
drunk ye Capt Hary [Bearly] in ye sloop
fitted out to Cruise, seems to be very
diligent to find out ilegal traders —
for whom, & others lesser Incoragemt, I have
I have also given my share of all seis[ures]
they shall make, or discover, [illegible]cured
them, of all nessesary assistance, for [p'se
cusion] or other wayes as ocation & hope
none will Escape, for the future [then]
formerly from hence In my former
I gave you an acct of Collo [Daniell Park],
being made of the Councill, [illegible] in which
p3 there being [yett] b[illegible] [sight, &] of them some
old, & lame. I have now taken on Collo
Ri: Johnson, was sworn [att] the board
the 28th instant, for whom I also
pray his Matys Comands, and orders
for said station, [And][illegible] continued
favor, for what else may be for his
Majties service, in this colony, and am
